Adam Prentice of Ireland
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 1999 and Revised: 9 Jun 2009

We are assisting Joan Brock in trying to identify the ancestry of her Prentice ancestors. Hee is what we have so far:

Adam Prentice of Magherabeg (Dromore Parish), Ireland and who was born about 1790 to 1810, based on the birthplace and birthdate of his daughter, Martha.

He m. Nancy Scott about whom we have no further information.

Our copy of a map of Ireland does not show Magherabeg, but does show two towns named Dromore. One is about 30 miles west of Belfast and the other one is 10-15 miles south of Belfast.

It is not known whether Adam and Nancy immigrated to Canada with their known children. They are:

  1. Thomas Prentice. His birthdate is not known. He lived in Toronto, Ontario, about 1903.

  2. Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1831 in Ireland according to the 1861 Canadian census. She married James Towell whose cemetery headstone identifies him as a native of Belfast, Ireland. Children:

    1. Sarah Towell, b. 1860.

    2. Mary Towell, b. 1862.
