Update of 23 Sep 2008: William C. Prentiss is a son of Ransom and Caroline Prentice. The information in this article has been merged into our Winter 1998 article entitled Nelson Prentiss of Franklin, MI .
1. William C. Prentiss was b. c. 1874 in MI. He does not appear in the 1880, 1900 census. He does, however, appear in the 1910 census in Lincoln, Clare Co., MI and in the 1920 census in Clare, Clare Co., MI with his wife and family.He m. Alice, b. c. 1874, MI, (per 1910 census, or 1885 per 1920 census) with both parents b. in Michigan (per 1910 census) or father in MI and mother in NY (per 1920 census). Children:
- Beatrice Prentice,b. c. 1901, MI. At home in 1910 but not in 1920.
- Henry W. Prentice, b. 11 Jan 1905, MI. . . . . [2]
- Wilma Prentice, b. c. 1918, MI.
2. Henry Prentice, b. 11 Jan 1905, MI and d. Sep 1973, Harrison, Clare Co., MI (per SSDI). He appears in the 1920 census in Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI with his wife, Perlina(?), b. c. 1905, OH. No children are shown.
Who are William C. Prentiss' Parents? The only clue we have so far is from the 1910 census which says that both of his parents were born in Michigan.
The IGI shows a William Prentice, b. 15 Jan 1875, Clinton, Lenawee Co., MI, son of Ransom R.Prentice and Elzabeth. No other information is provided. It is unclear whether this is the same William Prentice.
Since William's parents were said to have been b. in MI, we prepared the following analysis of Prentices/Prentiss' in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 MI census for Prentices b. between 1844 and 1854:
