He m. Matilda, b. c. 1808 or 1811, Stow, Suffolk. In the 1871 Needham Market census they are living on Church Lane next door to their son and his wife, Harry and Eliza. The census records and the IGI show the following children b. to James and Matilda in Needham:

    2. William Prentice, b. c. 1844, Needham Market, Suffolk, England, Mason's Laborer, appears in the 1881 and 1891 Fulham, London census living in 1881 at 12 Suffolk Street, with his wife and family.

He m. Truphena, b. c. 1846, St. George, Hanover Sq., Middlesex. Children:

Although the parents are not shown in the 1901 census, William and Truphena are likely the parents of the following children who were living together in 1901 at 7 Queensland Road, Islington, London:

    1. Louisa Prentice, b. 1873, Chelsea, London. See above.
    2. John Prentice, b. 1883, Fulham, London. At home in Fulham in 1891 census.

    3. Harry Prentice was b. c. 1848 in Needham, Suffolk, England and is shown in the 1861 census as the son of James and Matilda. Not in 1901 census.

Harry m. Eliza Baker, b. c. 1848 Creeting St. Mary, Suffolk, England. The Marriage Certificate says Eliza was then 18 and is dated 10 Nov 1866, Parish of Needham Market, Suffolk. Although additional investigation is need for confirmation, there is a good chance that Eliza's parents are John and Susan Baker who are shown in the 1861 census as having a daughter named Eliza Baker, b. c. 1850 in Needham, and no longer at home in 1871. Children of Harry and Elizaper 1881 census:

    2. William Prentice, b. c. 1869, Needham Mkt, Suffolk. At home in 1881. A lodger in Lakenham, Norfolk, in the 1891 census. Who are James Prentice's Parents?

The IGI does not have James Prentice, b. c. 1801, Needham, in its database. We do, however, have some possible clues.

    1. James may be a brother to Harriett Prentice who was b. c. 1801 in Needham. One is tempted to think that that perhaps James named a son "Harry" after a possible sister, "Harriett." Further investigation is needed.

    2. James may be a descendant of John Prentice of Needham who had children, one of whom was James Prentice, b. 18 Feb 1727, who lived in Great Bricett which is only about 5 miles SW of Needham (see map ). We are not showing that he had a son, James, b. c. 1801, but the 1727 James may have had other brothers who might have named a son, "James."
