    Update of 11 Nov 2009: Amos E. Prentiss is the same person as Amos Ebenezer Prentiss who is #169 in our Henry Prentice eBook. Susan is his 2nd wife. That eBook now replaces this article.

    1. Amos E. Prentiss was b. c. 1835 in MA. He does not appear in the 1850 or 1860 census. He appears in the 1870 census in Arlington, Middlesex Co., MA as a Poultry Dealer with his wife and family. He later appears in the 1880 census in Revere, Suffolk Co., MA, as a Poultry Dealer.

    He m. Susan, b. c. 1825, MA with her father b. in NH and mother in MA. Children:

    1. Nathan Prentiss, b. c. 1853, MA. . . . . . . . . . [2]
    2. Abby L./S. Prentiss, b. c. 1854, MA.
    3. Henry B. Prentiss, b. c. 1856, MA. . . . . . . . . [3]
    4. Emma Prentiss, b. c. 1859, MA.
    5. Helen G. Prentiss, b. c. 1861, MA.

    2. Nathan R. Prentiss, b Nov 1852, MA, appears in the 1900 & 1920 Reading, Middlesex, MA census with wife, Georgiana E., b. Jul 1857, MA and children:

    1. Maud E. Prentiss, b. Mar 1884, MA.
    2. Alice E. Prentiss, b. Aug 1890, MA.
    3. Myrtle A. Prentiss, b. Jun 1895, MA.

    3. Henry B. Prentiss, b. c. 1846, MA. He may, or may not, be the Henry Prentiss, b. c. 1846, MA, who appears in the 1920 census in Rutherford, Bergen Co., NJ, with his wife, Anna E., b. c. 1851, NY. No children shown. However the 1930 Rutherford census shows Henry without his wife but with a daughter:

    1. Ella Prentice, b. c. 1881, NY. Also shown is her husband, Raymond Phillips, b. c. 1880, NY.

    Who are Amos E. Prentiss' Parents?

    The only clue we have so far is the census records for Revere, MA where Amos was living in the 1880 census which tells us both parents were b. in MA.

    Since Amos was b. c. 1835, his parents were probably b. before 1815, None are shown in Arlington in the 1840 and 1850 census, but the following is a listing of Prentices living in Arlington in 1870 and born before 1815:
