      In 1991 we received a copy of a Pedigree Chart and 3 Group Sheets which had been prepared by Colin W. Prentice. Using his information, together with information containing in the IGI and augmented by Richard Thompson, David Grutchfield and with the always-appreciated help of Ian Prentice, we have prepared the following revised Prentice family tree:

      1. Thomas Prentice was probably b. c. 1790-1805. He m. Mary. (see also Fn. 3) . Children (per IGI):

She was the dau. of George and Christiana Nichols of Bobbingworth. Children (per Colin W. Prentice, 10 Jun 2001):

      The 1871 Moreton census shows, living next door to Robert Prentice, b. 1804, #3iv, above, the family of James Prentice White, b. c. 1806, Moreton. Given their proximity, it seems likely that James' mother is a sister to Robert, and probably Mary, b. 1789, Moreton. James' wife is , b. c. 1816, and his children are:

      1. Mary Ann Prentice, chr. 10 Jun 1787, Moreton. She d. 23 Oct 1807.
      2. Martha Prentice White, b. c. 1854, Moreton
      3. Walter Prentice White, b. c. 1858, Moreton

      4. Mary Prentice, chr. 26 Apr 1761, Bobbingworth, Essex. She m. John Knight at Moreton on 11 Nov 1782. They had 1 or more children, including (per Richard Thompson, email, 5 May 2002):

      1. Sarah Knight, bap. 12 Apr 1795, Moreton, m. Charles Cowland on 17 Oct 1814. They had 1 or more children, including:
        1. Latitia Cowland, bap. 23 Apr 1815, Bobbingworth, 23 April 1815 m. Mr. Noakes on 26 Jan 1835 at Bobbingworth.

      He m. Ann Smith on 5 Sep 1833, Moreton. Ann was b. c. 1812 in Moreton. Children (per IGI and 1851 census):

      7. George Prentice, chr. 2 Feb 1834, Moreton. He appears in the 1871 census in St. Giles Without Cripplegate, London, England, and in the 1881 census living at 266 Bethnal Green Rd., London. He appears in the 1901 census living at 266 Bethnal Green Rd., London, with his wife and children,

      He m. Elizabeth, b. c. 1836, Bloomsbury, Middlesex. She may, or may not, be Elizabeth Jane Wootten, dau of Margaret Woothen who appears in the 1851 census in St. Giles in the Fields, London. Known children of George and Elizabeth:

      1. Mary Ann Prentice, b. c. 1854, Bloomsbury, Middlesex. At home in 1871. She m. Charles Hughes on 26 Nov 1876, St. Giles Cripplegate, London. Not in 1881 and later census.

      8. David Prentice, b. 9 Jul 1847, Bobbingworth (per IGI). He appears in the 1871 Moreton census with his wife in the home of her father, Joseph Holgate, and in the 1901 Ongar, Moreton census as a "Hurdle Maker" with his family.

      He m. Ellen Holegate, b. c. 1851, Moreton. Moreton lies about 1 miles north of Bobbingworth. Children:

      1. Maria Prentice, b. c. 1869, Moreton

      3. Clara Prentice, b. 1887, Moreton.
      4. Matilda Prentice, b. 1889, Moreton.

      9. Arthur John Prentice, b. 18 Aug 1851, Moreton (the 1901 census says Epping), Essex, England. He m. Alice Wood, b. c. 1854, Epping. In 1881 they were living on High Street in Moreton and his occupation was that of a Baker. Children (per IGI):

      1. William Arthur Prentice, b. 12 Oct 1879, Epping, Essex. At home in 1901.
      2. Sidney/Sydney Walter Prentice, b. 18 Sep 1880, Eppping, Essex. At home in 1901.

      Fn. 1: Colin Prentice's chart shows Thomas Prentice as b. 13 Jan 1732. However, Ian Prentice advises that the 1732 Thomas Prentice died young and that it was a later brother, also named Thomas, who was the father of Thomas Prentice, #3, who m. Elizabeth Warr.

      Fn. 2: Ian Prentice has identified Thomas' wife as Judith Lucklyn rather than the Anne Nichols shown on Colin Prentice's chart. That difference needs to be resolved. However, that appears to be a different Thomas Prentice (see email of David Grutchfield, 12 May 2004).

      Fn. 3: There was also a Thomas Prentice was b. c. 1684 and is called "of Moreton", Essex Co., England in the IGI. Thomas d. 16 Aug 1740 at Moreton. He m. Mary Tarling on 13 Oct 1709. She was b. 7 Oct 1689, Bobbingworth, and d. 8 Feb 1758. Mary was the dau. of John and Mary Tarling. This couple, however, appears too old to be the parents of the children listed.
