Prentices of Battisford, Suffolk, England.

In reviewing the IGI, and with the help of Ian Prentice, we found the following information about two Prentice families in Battisford, Suffolk, England which lies about 5 miles south of Stowmarket about 2 miles WSW of Needham Market, and perhaps 9-10 miles NW of Ipswich:

Family No. 1

1. David Prentice was likely b. c. 1770-75. m. Elizabeth and had:

  1. Elizabeth Prentice, b. 16 May 1796, Baptist Meeting House, Wattisham, Suffolk, England 1796, Wattisham.
  2. Hannah Prentice, b. 1798. She m. John Sarnders on 21 Oct 1817 at Battisford.
  3. David Prentice, b. 1800, Stowmarket. He m. Hannah Phillips on 27 Nov 1821 at Battisford.

Family No. 2

1. James Prentice was likely b. c. 1775-87. He m. Hannah and had:

  1. (probably) Mary Prentice, chr 24 Aug 1807, Stowmarket. She m. Thomas Moyes on 11 Dec 1828 at Battisford.
  2. Sarah Prentice, b. 1807, Stowmarket. She m. Samuel Newstead on 9 Jun 1835 at Battisford. They had a daughter.
    1. Hannah Newstead, chr. 25 Nov 1849 Suffolk County Bts, Suffolk (per IGI).
  3. Hannah Prentice, chr. 8 Oct 1809, Stowmarket.
  4. Sarah Prentice, chr. 9 Oct 1812, Stowmarket.

  6. Elizabeth Prentice, chr. 14 Feb 1819, Stowmarket.
  7. Rebecca Prentice, chr. 24 Dec 1820, Stowmarket. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]

2. Rebecca Prentice, b. c. 1821, Combs, Suffolk (per 1851 census) and chr. 24 Dec 1820, Stowmarket.

She m. John Clover, b. c. 1809, Battisford, Suffolk, per 1851 census and email of 27 Mar 2003 from Elizabeth de Vries. Children per 1851 Battisford, Suffolk, census:

  1. Sarah Clover, b. c. 1842, Combs, Suffolk. At home in Battisford, Suffolk, in the 1851 census. An email of 27 Mar 2003 from Elizabeth de Vries relates that Sarah Clover m. Robert Fox and that Sarah and Robert are her great grandparents and that they emigrated to Sale, Victoria, Australia. Children
  2. Benjamin Clover, b. c. 1843, Combs, Suffolk. At home in Battisford, Suffolk, in 1851 census.
  3. Hannah Clover, b. c. 1845, Battisbord, Suffok. At home in Battisford, Suffolk, in 1851 census.
  4. James Clover, b. c. 1847, Battisbord, Suffok. At home in Battisford, Suffolk, in 1851 census.
  5. John Clover, b. c. 1850, Battisbord, Suffok. At home in Battisford, Suffolk, in 1851 census.
