Joseph Prentice of Luton, Bedfordshire, England

With the help of Ian Prentice's email of 3 Jan 2001 and the IGI, we have prepared a tentative family tree for Joseph Prentice of Luton, Bedfordshire, England.
1. Joseph Prentice was probably b. c. 1650-68 and apparently baptised at a location other than Luton. Joseph d. in Luton in 1692. He m. Sarah and had at least 2 children:
- Jeremiah Prentice, baptised in Luton in 1688.

2. Joseph Prentice was probably b. c. 1685-1700 and baptised at a location other than Luton. He lived in Newmill End and was buried in Luton in 1750. Joseph m., 1st, Sarah. She d. in 1721 and was. bur. in Luton. Children:
- Mary Prentice, chr. 23 Oct 1720 in Luton. She d. 1721 and was bur. in Luton.
- Joseph Prentice, b. 1720. . . . . . . . . . . . . . [3]
Joseph m., 2nd, Mary King on 21 Apr 1722. He d. in 1781 and was bur. in Chiltern Green where his son, Joseph, was buried.
3. Joseph Prentice, was b. c. 1720, Luton, Bedforshire, England. He d. in Luton in 1692 and was bur. at Chiltern Green.
A Joseph Prentice married Diana Sharp in 1741 in Pulloxhill not far from Luton. It is unclear if this is the same Joseph Prentice.
Joseph Prentice m. Sara Tilcock, perhaps as a second marriage, on 11 Sep 1756 at Flamstead which lies near Luton. Sara d. in 1800 and was also bur. at Chiltern Green. Their known children, as shown in the IGI, are: (Note: the spelling of the surname varies; for uniformity, a single spelling is used)
- Sarah Prentice, chr. 8 Jan 1758 Luton, Bedford, England
- Mary Prentice, chr. 10 Jun 1759 Luton, Bedford, England
- Joseph Prentice, chr. 6 Dec 1761 Saint Mary, Luton, Bedford, England. He is probably the Joseph Prentes shown in the IGI as marrying Elizabeth Crouch on 20 Oct 1793 at Luton. They had 1 or more children, including:
Rebeckah Prentice, chr. 4 Jun 1797 Saint Mary, Luton.
- John Prentice, chr. 17 Apr 1763 Saint Mary, Luton, Bedford, England
- Sarah Prentice, chr. 14 Apr 1765 Saint Mary, Luton, Bedford, England
- Edward Prentice, chr. 25 May 1766 Saint Mary, Luton, Bedford, England
- William Prentice, chr. 12 Jul 1772 Saint Mary, Luton, Bedford, England. He may be the William Prentice of Leighton Buzzard who is discussed in our Spring 2001 issue.
- Rebeckah Prentice, chr. 9 Jul 1775 Saint Mary, Luton, Bedford, England
