John Prentice, Ireland, ND and CA

John Prentice (spelled Prentiss in the 1920 census) was b. Jan 1860 in Ireland. The 1920 census indicates he emigrated to the United States in 1880; he would then have been about 30. He appears in the 1900 and 1920 Foster Co., ND census with his wife, Anna Garret, b. May 1874 in English Canada, and their children:
- Anna Prentice, b. Apr 1895, ND.
- James Prentice, b. 5 May 1896 and d. 15 Sep 1984 in Orange Co., CA at the age of 88 (per CA Death Index).
- Eliza/Elizabeth J. Prentice (dau.), b. Jun 1897, ND.
- Margaret/Maggie Prentice, b. Jan 1900, ND.
- Etta Prentice, b. c. 1903, ND.
Also shown living in John's household in the 1920 census are the the following children who are called "not related" in the census:
- Mary Prentice, b. c. 1904, ND.
- John Prentice, b. c. 1906, ND.
- Samuel Prentice, b. c. 1908, ND.
Since John's son, James, died in California, one might infer that John and his entire family moved to CA, but neither the SSDI nor the California Death Index have an entry for John.
